A Phone Experiment
Turns out there's a term for phone separation anxiety: nomophobia.
That's probably not healthy.
I'm trying a new experiment to help me not be so tethered to my phone 24/7: rather than charing it on my nightstand, I'm now charging it in the closet.
So far, so good – my phone hasn't been the first thing I've reached for when I wake up, and I'm able to spend at least the first 30 minutes of my day thinking rather than consuming.
Other benefits:
- Decluttered my nightstand
- Finally gave purpose to one of the dozens of old 5w power bricks in the closet (if I'm not on it 24/7, why do I care how slowly it charges?)
- Better sleep?
I'm also making an attempt to leave my phone across the room - or better yet, in the other room or turned off completely. I'm wearing a cellular Apple Watch, so I can still make calls or send texts – but not much else. So far, seems like the perfect mix. We'll see how it goes.
